Have you been outside or on a drive and thought, Goodness, it’s hot today, only to check the temperature and find out that its only a few degrees warmer than your house?
I hear you, and to think that we still have twenty degrees or more to go until we’re in the hottest part of our Utah Summer.
At some point, especially if you like exercising, the daytime workout can become unbearable. Luckily for you, if you live in one of our 55+ communities for active adults, we have a fully conditioned clubhouse with an exercise room.
This means that you don’t have to risk heat stroke, you only have to risk making new friends.
Healthy adults, healthy communities.
The gym you always wanted
Some people pay almost as much for their gym membership as you will pay with your HOA bill, and they don’t even get their grass mowed or their snow shoveled for that price.
You however will not only get a beautifully maintained community, but you’ll have access to a community clubhouse and the exercise facilities that have many of the same, top of the line equipment from Matrix. With ellipticals, bikes, treadmills, and weights, you can find something to fit your workout needs best, and that will help keep you in tip top condition, well into your retirement.
While you may not need it, your neighborhood gym will also have a television with cable, so that if you are working out alone, or if you just want to catch up on the news before your busy day, you can. Perhaps you’re like me, and the distraction helps take your mind off of that workout routine that you know you should be doing, and it helps you finish it without giving up prematurely.
Don’t like working out with a crowd? That’s okay too. Since only your community has access to the workout facilities, and since only a marginal portion of your neighbors will even use the exercise equipment, it’s usually pretty easy to find a time each day to plan an undisturbed workout.
Also, the exercise room in the clubhouse is the only room that your grandkids do not have access to. That room is reserved for homeowners only.
But wait, that’s not all!
Don’t forget the swimming pool if you like to do water aerobics or lap swimming, the pool is the place for you. Many of our communities have organized aerobics a few times each week, and there’s times all throughout the day, especially in the mornings and evenings, when nobody is playing in the pool and you can swim as many laps as you like.
My personal preference is to mix it up, do something different every other day. I like the strength training exercises in the clubhouse gym and I like the cardio workout that I get by swimming laps in the pool.
Whatever your preference is, the clubhouse can be a real asset to the healthy lifestyle you want in retirement. Not only can the facility help you take care of your physical health, but the fact that this is a community of people around your same age and circumstances, you can improve your mental and social health by making and enjoying more close friendships.
