Are you 55 or older?
Do you currently live in Utah, or are planning a move to the Beehive State?
If you’ve answered yes to either of these questions, then chances are you are not new to the idea of food storage.
But what if you are also considering a move into one of our active adult communities? Will you have places to store that emergency stash?
Being prepared for an emergency
Why wouldn’t there be room for food storage?
One of the biggest problems for people looking to create ample food storage, is space. In Utah, due primarily to the LDS church, a two-year supply of food is recommended.
This doesn’t mean that Utahans all pessimistic about natural disasters or other Armageddon type incidents. It’s just smart living. Anything can happen. If you’re still working, and you lose your job, well, I’ve known people who’ve lived off their food storage for over a year until they were able to find work again. This is just one way food storage can help you out of a tight spot.
But if you’ve ever lived in an apartment or town-home, you might be wondering where do I store my extra food?
Leisure Villas builds single level homes. Since many seniors or soon to be seniors prefer to have no steps, we lose the basements that traditionally hold these storages. But never fear. Though we have no basements, we haven’t forgotten you.
Where to store my stuff?
The inside of these homes, we have more storage than you might think. Anywhere we can fit a closet, we do. But that generally won’t accommodate a two-year supply of food.
But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for it. In our garages, we designed a large space just for people like you. It can accommodate extra deep racks or I’ve even seen people frame it in and insulate it to keep their food in even better condition.
This nook is very versatile. If you’re not concerned with food storage, this area also makes a great work-bench area. To appreciate it, you really need to see it. I’ve shown many people the garage, and almost without fail, they are extremely surprised and delighted by what they find. Most of them never expected to have such room in a single level floorplan.
Downsizing is not compromising.
Just because it’s time for you to downsize, it doesn’t mean that you need to compromise anything. When you make the switch to single floor living, you are getting rid of all the extra junk that has grown all over your previous house.
If you have strong convictions about keeping a good supply of food for a rainy day, or year as it may turn out, you will find living in one of our senior communities to be the perfect fit. Not only will you get the lifestyle you prefer, with the people you want to share it with, but you’ll also be prepared for any event that may come your way.
Leisure Villas welcomes you to any of our many communities. Find the one that is nearest to you and see how we can make your next several years, the best they can be.
